Spatial planning and Natura 2000

Spatial planning can be a very useful tool for Natura 2000, to reconcile nature conservation with the interests of other sectoral policies with territorial implications. However, to date it has not been any detailed study of this potential.

This study is to fill this information gap. It analyzes:

  • spatial planning in relation to Natura 2000
  • the concept and the fundamentals of spatial planning, instruments and governance systems
  • mechanisms to integrate Natura 2000 into spatial planning
  • cross-border issues
  • most relevant GIS methodologies.

The result set is included in the publication Natura 2000 and spatial planning (English)

Project (07.0202/2015/716466/ETU / ENV. B.3) carried out in consortium led by Wageningen UR. Toguether with Terra Ecogest also participated the Estonian University of Life Sciences(Estonia) and Geographica ( Bulgaria).
